SocialFun.com Troubles
Spencer is supposed to be doing a report that’s due tomorrow. Instead he’s listening to music and browsing around on SocialFun.com (a social networking site). He goes onto Steffie’s profile (they’re “friends” on the site) and clicks “all friends.” He scrolls down Steffie’s list of friends. Spencer finds a high school sophomore called Kimmie Preston on Steffie’s friend list. Kimmie’s profile says she’s single (just because she hasn’t changed it yet). Kimmie’s profile displays some albums. Spencer downloads the pictures from select albums (i.e. Charging Mustangs Color Guard.”) As he’s drooling over the pictures, he is chatting with a friend from school who knows about the limerence (infatuation/obsession).
Just then, Steffie comes up and grips Spencer’s shoulders. Spencer spins around too quickly in the rotating chair and spins out of control. Steffie lectures Spencer about the report that he’s SUPPOSED to be doing – and here it is 11:45 PM, and he hasn’t even started. (He also had a whole month to do it). Steffie adds, “And stay off my profile!”
The next day (after receiving a failing grade on his report) he goes back to Steffie’s profile. He checks out Kimmie’s information again and finds out more about her (which makes her all the more desirable in his eyes). He gets Kimmie’s email address from her SocialFun “contact information” link. Spencer incessantly e-mails Kimmie, with no response.
Knowing very well that Kimmie will not fall for a scrawny zit-faced eighth grader, Spencer uses PicTric (a photo editing software) to make himself look older and hotter. He emails Kimmie a touched-up picture with no zits, whiter teeth, and more build.
